The Legend of Cawkers Well

Chas Townsing is an enthusiast. For many years the 69-year-old baker had a dream of running a cattle station. He’d had a few head on a small hobby farm in Maryborough, Vic, but he really wanted to try his hand at the real thing.

So, after a highly successful career as a baker, he and his wife Fay sold up and bought Cawkers Well, a 75,000 acre property just  west of Wilcannia in the far west of NSW, and they’re now running more than 600 Herefords.

Rotary Success Conference - Effective Retention Ideas

  • New members project – 1st 12-18 months of joining members have the opportunity of proposing a new project to the Board (up to $1000 or equivalent in labour)
  • Don’t burn out new members too quickly, avoid using them too little, give them projects in their areas of expertise, don’t knock back new ideas –listen to them and engage them and make sure you listen to the ideas of your younger members.
  • Be sure to communicate effectively to all members.
  • Retention starts from the minute a prospective member walks in the door.
