One of the worst aspects of dementia is the onset of agitation and unusual social behaviour. In a care home environment this is both upsetting to other residents and time consuming for staff. The stock answer to this problem is to administer anti-psychotic drugs even though there is considerable evidence to suggest that these can lead to premature death if used too often.
